Low Carbon, Cycling and Resilient City Project moves to Stage II

As reported earlier about the Low Carbon City, Bicycle City, and Disaster-Aware and Response-Ready City Building for Livable and Sustainable Localities Projectof which Thailand Cycling Club is one of the four parties that work together to operate it and the project organized the first meeting of its Working Group for Development of Concepts, Success Indicators and Guidelines for Development of Low Carbon City, Bicycle City and Disaster-Aware and Response-Ready City on November 12, 2015 (seehttp://www.thaicyclingclub.org/en/article/detail/7005).  On December 15, 2015, the working group held its second meeting.

In this meeting, the committee was informed about progress of the project so far by project staffs.  Firstly, application was opened for municipalities to express their interest to become a model municipality in this project.  A total of 70 municipalities from all five regions of the country applied and 15 were selected, given priority to municipalities what had experience having assessed their carbon footprint before. The project also had a list of 17 municipality staff who had accepted to become resource persons to train and supervise the 15 pilot/model municipalities.  These resource persons would first receive training on December 24-25, 2015.   Thailand Cycling Club would send our team of trainers / resource persons to train them on how to create bicycle city/community in this training workshop.

The meeting then widely discussed Guidelines for Local Administrative Organisations to Develop Low Carbon, Cycling and Resilient City, and concluded an 11-point set of guidelines.  Each guideline has examples and clear indicators or expected minimum achievement.
