Call for paper : Thailand Bike and Walk Forum 1st

Researchers, academics and concerned parties are invited to propose their results of work for presentation in an academic forum

The First Thailand Bike & Walk Forum

Background

Thailand Cycling Club (TCC) has been executing Cycling and Walking Public Policy Advocacy Programme with supports from the Thai Health Promotion Foundation (ThaiHealth) since early 2011 through creation of three main driving forces – social movement, knowledge management and practical policies. Projects and activities under this programme include, for example, creation and compilation of knowledge through research and studies, creation of cycling communities at local level, creation and strengthening of provincial networks of bicycle users and walkers, and meetings for creation of bicycle users’ federation at regional and national level to support policy advocacy.

An important component of knowledge management according to the programme’s strategic plan is to collect together and systematize bodies of knowledge from activity implementation in projects under the programme, creating opportunities for mutual learning and sharing between all sectors concerned at all levels, including individuals, clubs, foundations/associations, local administrative organizations, government agencies, and education/academic/research institutes. At the end of the first year, TCC organized two seminars, one for researchers to present results of their research and another one for representatives of organizations working to create cycling community at community, sub-district and provincial levels to share their experiences.

However, there are still many individuals, groups, clubs, associations, education institutes and other concerned organizations all over the country that are working or doing activities in line with this programme, and private organizations with social responsibility which recognize that the programme can benefit the people and society in other dimensions – social, economic, health, and conservation of energy, environment and natural resources. Therefore at the end of the second year of the programme, TCC is planning to organize an academic conference for promotion of cycling and walking in daily life, “The First Thailand Bike & Walk Forum” on March 29-30, 2013.

         Objectives
